I remember growing up not being allowed to partake in any Halloween activity. I would only dream about the day I can do whatever I wanted with my life and be free to go out on this night. I would imagine the many costumes I would wear and parties I would attend.
Fast forward 20 years, I have never dressed up or partaken in a Halloween activity, still. Probably never will.
We are currently in the middle of October. And now that I have two little ones, I have started to feel the pressure that comes around this time of year to start planning and coordinating costumes for my family.
I see, not just people outside of Church, but even people in the Church dress up and go out trick or treating.
So many people think of this day as a simple, non-threatening holiday that brings people together to be happy and have a good time.
It feels so counter-cultural to abstain from these activities, so I wanted to take these few minutes to explain to you why we don’t participate in Halloween festivities.
1) It’s a day consecrated to witchcraft.
Most shelters ban the adoption of black cats around this time of year, mainly because of witches, occult practitioners, and satanist who offer blood sacrifices to demons.
Also, people who practice witchcraft leave food and water outside their houses to feed the demons AKA spirits.
Halloween is a day set aside for the kingdom of Satan and all his fallen angels.
2) It exalts fear and darkness
There is so much history of darkness about this day. But you don’t have to go so far back to see what things are pushed on to people on Oct 31st.
Everything about that day exalts FEAR above all things but also abuse, violence, and immorality.
Fear is the opposite of faith.
I believe one of Satan’s main agenda during Halloween is to plant seeds of fear in our hearts so that our faith, which we need to please God, would be hindered.Tweet
“And without faith, it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.” Heb 11:6
3) It promotes promiscuity.
I have a daughter. Of course, I would never provocatively dress my three-year-old. But, If I encourage her to celebrate and dress up on Halloween, what kind of costumes do you think she will be tempted to wear when she is a teenager or a young adult?
Have you seen the options out there? They are 90% very provocative and very seductive.
It’s so sad to see thousands of women degrade themselves by dressing like sex workers to gain the attention of men.
Women are so incredibly loved and valued by God. It is not His will to have them expose themselves like this.
I had a dear friend tell me that she loves Halloween because it brings her back so many good memories of her childhood, and she wants the same for her kids.
But friend, the truth is that we have been called to DIE to ourselves and our past.
We are a NEW creation, and the things we use to do before christ should be left under the blood of Jesus and never picked back up.Tweet
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, and see, the new has come!” 2 Cor 5:17
I pray that you would seek God about this and ask Him what does He want from you and your family. And I pray that He will also give you the courage to obey Him.
That’s it from me today, beautiful friend. If you would like to stay connected with me, remember to join my email list below. Also, if you want to be part of this conversation, leave me a comment below so we can talk more about this.
You are so loved.
