How To Hear the Voice of God

Hey there, beautiful friend!

It’s late at night and today has been a day of putting things back where they belong.

God has been whispering to my spirit all day long about different areas in my life that need to be placed back in to order.

I know that this last sentence might be hard for you to believe if you have never heard the voice of God. Maybe you are wondering if that is even possible or available for you.

The answer to that is a big ole YES!

The Bible says this in John 10:27, “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.” I think this verse gives us some important keys on how to hear the voice of God.

First, to be able to hear God’s voice, you must be “His sheep.” In other words, you must have accepted Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. Also, right after that, you must have asked God to fill you with His Holy Spirit. Because the Holy Spirit is the only way that God can dwell in you and that way, give you 24/7 unlimited access to Him.

Second, God must KNOW you. This is a weird concept to understand because we know that God knows everything and everyone. But what God is saying here is that He needs to know you intimately.

The type of knowing that He is talking about here can only happen in private prayer and worship. It’s only in prayer that we learn to hear God in our Spirits or minds. It’s only in worship that we get to express to him the depths of our souls and the adoration He deserves, like king David did.

And third, is that you must have decided you will ”follow” God wherever He may lead you. That just means that your heart’s position is already set to obey Him no matter what He asks or tells you. God cherishes and rewards obedience.

The Bible says in 1 Samuels 15:22 that obedience is greater than sacrifice.

When you are truly and honestly ready to obey God’s counsel and leadership, then that’s when you will be able to hear Him the clearest.

If you have checked all of the above and you are ready to hear God’s voice, then all you have to do is ask. Ask Him a question or just talk to Him in your mind and He will answer. At the beginning you might get confused and think that it’s just you thinking up things. but if you wait, the Lord will always send different types of confirmation ex: people, shows, images, signs, etc.

Eventually, you’ll learn to distinguish the voice of God, yours, and Satan’s (because the enemy is always trying tell us lies all day)

The easiest way to distinguish them is using the Word of God as a verification tool. Because God WILL NEVER contradict Himself. But Satan is always trying to twist God’s Word. So if what you are hearing is aligned with the word and God sends confirmation then that voice was from God.

Hearing from God is extremely easy thanks to Jesus’ sacrifice and Holy Spirit living in us.

You are DESIGNED to hear from God. Every part of your being is made to be in constant communication with God. So I encourage you to try it daily because we are the most privileged beings in the universe for having such an honor to be able to connect with God whenever wherever.

What about you? Have you ever heard the voice of God? Do you want to?

You’re so loved,

  1. I love the last point about obedience. It’s so important to make that decision to follow Him. This whole post reminds me of the, “My sheep hear My voice” verse in John 💛

    1. Absolutely! God speaks to everyone, it’s just really hard for us to learn to identify his voice, specially when we still haven’t accepted him in our lives. In like any relationship, It takes time to get to know the person and their voice or way of speaking.

So, when someone is not use to listening to him, he uses other ways to speak to us. He talks to people through billboards, shows, songs, other people, etc.

I believe he has been speaking to me my whole life. But the very first time I recognized his voice was when I met Christ and accepted him as Lord and savior of my life. He gave me some personal instructions and the sent a bunch of crazy confirmations through people about what he had said to me so that I knew it was Him. It was pretty crazy but awesome at the same time.
